Give it a Go FAQs

How do I sign up and pay for GIAG Freshers events?

You go to the Freshers’ website where you can pick your events. If you pay for 5 events we discount what you’ve bought by 10%. If you pay for 8 events, we discount you 20%.

How do I collect my GIAG tickets?

All GIAG event tickets will be e-tickets. Just bring your email receipt with you on the day either printed out or on your phone. We’ll also have lists of who has signed up to which trip.

Which events are eligible for the multi-buy discount?

Multi-buy eligible events are:

Cardiff Bay Trips including the Barrage Walk and Senedd Tour

Big Red Bus Tours

Barry Island Trip

St. Fagans Trip

Castell Coch Travel (not entry)

IKEA Trips

Welsh Cake Making

Welsh Lessons

When are all the GIAG Freshers events?

An excellent question! The dates and times of all GIAG Freshers activities are online at cardiffstudent.com/giveitago or can be found in the fabulous turquoise and yellow booklets we’ve been handing out to everyone

Is the cost of entry for Cardiff Castle, Principality Stadium and Castell Coch included in the wristband?

No, while we will take you to Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium, these are not included in the multi-buy offer so you will have to pay for entry on the day for Cardiff Castle and online separately for your Principality Stadium ticket.
Travel to Castell Coch is included in the multi-buy offer but entry isn’t, and is £4.20 with a valid student card so not bank busting!

Do we have to sign up online for Freshers' events?

Yes you do! If you have bought events and got you e-receipt you’re all sorted. If you were thinking of attending a free event you must still get the free ticket online. Because we only have a certain number of spaces we do need to know you’re attending, if you don’t, we may have to turn you away, and we really don’t want to have to do that!

Where do the Big Red Bus tours and trips leave from?

The front of the Students’ Union building (Park Place), there will be Give It A Go volunteers in bright t-shirts there to help guide students.

Are the Cardiff Bay trips guided?

If you’re attending a Cardiff Bay Walk or Tour then yes, this is a guided trip. If you’re just attending the Cardiff Bay standard trip, this is free time for you to spend however you’d like before catching the Big Red Bus back to the Students’ Union.

How much can we buy in IKEA?

There is limited space on the Big Red Bus back from IKEA, we’d say that if you’re buying more than can easily be placed on your lap or in front of your feet on the bus, you’ve bought too much. Don’t go buying huge flat packs!

If we are late getting the bus back, will it wait for us?

Unfortunately due to the schedule of the Big Red Bus during Freshers’, if students are late back to the bus, we will have to leave without you, so do try to be on time!

How often are the walking tours?

Our walking tours are twice a day every day of Freshers’ – times can be found on the www.cardiffstudents.com/giveitago page

Where do the walking tours start and end?

Again, this is the front of the Students’ Union building (Park Place).

Do we have to sign up to walking tours even if they’re free?

Yes please do! This is so we know that you are coming and have an idea of numbers. If you don’t sign up, and we have too many people attend, we may have to turn away those who have not signed up online and you’ll have to sign up for a different tour.

How long are the tours GIAG is running?

All our walking and Big Red Bus tours are 1 hour long. Tours at attractions may be slightly longer than this. We don’t anticipate any tour being longer than 2 hours.

What’s the GIAG booklet about?

The GIAG booklet comprises of all the student activities happening in the Students’ Union (that we know of!) allowing new and current students to be able to pick and choose what they’d like to try and experience easily!

All club and society events will have online sign-ups and it allows you to try before you buy a membership.

GIAG is also running a Freshers’ calendar of events and day trips all the way up until Christmas, so it’s worth every student having a cheeky look.

Are the Freshers Day Trips guided?

The Freshers’ Day Trips to Rhossili Bay and Caerphilly are not guided by our trip leaders, so whilst you’ll have a friendly face on the day, they aren’t there to take you round the destination, that’s up to you!
